In a chronological resume format you are required to list down your work experience and work history in a chronological (Reverse) manner. Meaning the most recent work experience comes first followed by past work experiences. This format is liked by the employers as it is easier to quickly glance to your work experience and professional backgrounds in one go. When mentioning your work experience, in a chronological format start by writing your company name, your designation, no. of years worked in the company. Functional Resume Type: This format is very different from the traditional chronological resume format. As opposed to chronological resume type this format is looked down upon by head hunters and recruiters. Combination Resume Type: As the name suggest this resume format is a combination of both traditional chronological resume and functional resume format. This is best used for targeted jobs. This resume format is even useful when a candidate is going for a career change, as he would be able to highlight his important skill sets first. The combination resume format if properly done is accepted by most of the organizations (though exceptions are always their).

In combination resume type there are 2 main drawbacks. Firstly it tends to become too long and secondly some information gets repeated. If you opt to go for combination resume format than make sure that in bullets you first highlight your skill sets (directly related to the job profile you are applying for).
